A suggested resource list as part of the Forbes House Museum exhibition "Opium: The Business of Addiction."

Exhibition Information

On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, the Forbes House Museum, in collaboration with the Milton Public Library and the Milton Coalition (formerly Milton Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition), opened Opium: The Business of Addiction.  The exhibition tells the story of the Forbes family’s involvement in the 19th c. opium trade, its links to the current opioid epidemic, and its lasting impact on US-Sino relations.

The exhibition has been made possible in part by major grants from the Institute for Museum and Library Services IGSM-249469-OMS-21 and the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy Demands Wisdom.

In addition to major grants from IMLS and NEH, this program is funded in part by Mass Humanities, which receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is a NEH affiliate, and BID-Milton Hospital.
